It's been a while since we've released a new knitting pattern into the wild so we thought we'd send this little beauty along to y'all.

We love the striking looks and cozy feel of this vest and we designed it with YOU, the wearer, in mind.

Here are a few details about what went on in the making of this design and the pattern.

About the Yarn

We originally designed this vest in Plymouth Yarn Grande Glow which has a subtle hint of Stelina in it… that means there's a little SPARKLE to it or, as the name implies, a little GLOW.

Also as the name implies, Plymouth Yarn Grande Glow is a GRANDE yarn… meaning it is a bulky weight yarn weighing in at a healthy CYCA 5.

And, yes, Plymouth Yarn Grande Glow is 97% Baby Alpaca. Folks… that means this yarn feels oh so soft next to your skin. Seriously… just get a case of it and dive into it. You're welcome.

About the Design

This vest is one of those times when my concept sketch and the yarn came together perfectly to create exactly what I pictured in my mind.

I wanted a vest that would have this luxurious folded ribbed shawl collar with the same folded ribbing around the armholes for the ultimate cozy, layering piece.

We wanted volume and a cozy feel without unsightly bulkiness or sagging. We wanted strong, clean lines to pull the piece together and give the finished fabric a stylish, graphic look.

As I swatched different yarn weights, I found that a lofty bulky weight yarn was what I was really craving to make this vest over-the-top luscious and decadent without being heavy and weighed down.

We made the length to hit just around the hips for most body types because we pictured folks layering this over their winter wardrobe pieces and heading to the office or out for a walk and kicking leaves on a gorgeous Fall day. Aaaaahh… I need some hot cider now… oh… where was I? Oh, the length, yes. We didn't want the length to get in the way of your activities as your head to the game or trundle about town shopping while the snow falls gently on the streets outside. Mmmmm… maybe hot cocoa… mmmm… sorry… I keep drifting away.

Besides being a great active-length vest, we designed our vest in this length because it should hit most body types just low enough to not cut you in half… and we all know how that can instantly make anyone look dumpy no matter what type of body you're sporting. GAH!

The great thing about the length is, if you are knitting along and decide you want to lengthen or shorten the vest a bit, all you have to do is work a few more or a few less rows before you get to the division for the armholes. The body is made all in one piece up to the armholes then you divide and work the fronts and back separately onto the main body panel. Finish the body off by joining the shoulders with a 3-Needle Bind Off and you're ready to work on that gorgeous Double Shaker Ribbing.

To finish off this ultimate cool-weather, cozy-as-all-get-out, wrap-up-and-feel-like-a-million-bucks knitted vest pattern, we couldn't go with an ordinary ribbing for the collar and armhole borders. Nope. We went full on Double Shaker Knit Ribbing folks – luxurious, luscious, and downright decadent. Then… we folded it! Yup… it's like the bomb-diggity-big-dog of ribbing borders.

About the Pattern
The pattern is written for sizes Small through 3X and includes a Stitch Guide, a Techniques section with detailed instructions for the 3-Needle Bind Off, and a Pattern Stitches section with instructions for the Broken Rib and Double Shaker Knit stitches.

The Women's Ribbed Edge Knit Vest knitting pattern is available now in our Pattern Store as a digital download that includes the Knitting Pattern and Schematics so you can block and even customize the pattern for a personal fit.

Now that we've released this new knitting pattern into the wild, we want to see what you make of it! Grab your needles and your favorite cozy yarn and Stitch On! We can't wait to see your finished project.
