New From the Studio: Ribbed Waist Knit Top Pattern

7/30/2014

New From the Studios of Shibaguyz Designz
This week new from the studio is the Ribbed Waist Knit Top pattern. Y'all know we love a clean, elegant design and this cute t-top fits that bill perfectly.

I designed this piece with the thought of creating a garment that folks would reach for whenever they wanted something a little special to wear for work, running errands, or a weekend excursion… a true wardrobe staple that fits a variety of fashion functions.

Chic, classic, elegant… and REALLY cute too! We think this one has the whole package going on referring to our mantra of Fashion, Fit, Form, and Function.

Proud of your curves? Show 'em off! The 2x1 ribbing is beautifully body conscious and puts shaping in all the right places to fit your curves.

Curves not your thing? That's easily taken care of! Block the ribbing out to hang more loosely and give your body some room to breathe.

Either way, the deep ridges create graphic vertical lines that lengthen your body lines and offer a striking contrast to the easy peasy stockinette stitch upper body.

Wanna talk easy? The t-style sleeves are made by casting on extra stitches to the desired sleeve length. The gentle shaping around the ends of the sleeves are made by working 2x1 ribbing around the openings and you can, again, customize that fit by blocking but we think you'll find the sleeves to be a comfortable fit without any fussing.
The crew neckline is roomy and comfortable with the same ribbing finish as the sleeves. Even if you do like things more relaxed in the neck area, you'll want to keep the designated needle size for the neckline ribbing since the neckline is already designed with plenty of ease.
The pattern is written to be worked flat in two panels but could easily be adapted for working in the round up to the sleeve shaping then worked flat up to the shoulders and joined as stated in the pattern along the topline.

Now, I know this could be rowing into dangerous waters but… here goes. We are not fans of the overused, flippant, and, frankly, bothersome use of the label "quick and easy"… this is not boxed mac and cheese… ugh… don't get me started. Who am I kidding… too late…

Steps up on soapbox.

Tagging every single pattern, recipe, and DIY project with "quick and easy" has created a false sense of value that dilutes the whole idea of handiwork and handcraft.

Trust me… I like instant gratification as much as the next person. But does everything have to have the designation "quick and easy" attached to it for us to even give it a second look? Craftsmanship, attention to detail, and quality… slow down a little and enjoy the process of making and creating.

Some things might be quick, some things might be easy, but not everything has to be quick and easy. Yes, more skilled and practiced hands do move more quickly through the creation process but, mostly, quality comes from careful craftsmanship that sometimes takes more than a quick stitch and whip.

Steps off soapbox… for now…

That said, this design really is an easy pattern to work up and, with more skills and a practiced hand, could even be a quick pattern to work up.

Easy in that it doesn't take an experienced skill set to achieve the finished garment. We designed it that way so first-time garment makers and those with more experience at making garments could both enjoy making this design.

If all you know how to do is cast on, knit, and purl, all you need to do is learn a three-needle bind off and you can make your first garment!

Experienced garment makers will appreciate the simple elegance of this piece and will be able to turn out one of these cute numbers and be showing it off in no time.

Beginner or more experienced… either way this will be a wardrobe staple as soon as the last end is woven in.
The digital pattern for the Ribbed Waist Knit Top is available as a digital download in our online pattern store. You can click on the pattern photos above or click HERE to go to our Books and Patterns page.

Enjoy the pattern…and enjoy the making process. Be sure to share your finished object with us! We love seeing what y'all are up to with our patterns.
