What To Crochet or Knit For THAT Guy

Trying to think of something special to make for THAT guy? We have a few suggestions for you.

If you maintain a website of any sort and have analytics software hooked up to it, you know there is a section in that analysis that tells you what words someone put into a search engine that lead them to your site. We see the usual search terms like…

"How to make the Foundation Single Crochet stitch"

And…

"Woven Cables Pattern Stitch"

And the ever popular…

"Why is my crochet work wavy at the edges?"

But the search terms where we've recently seen a BIG boost are…

"Men's knit sweater designs"

And…

"Crochet patterns for men"

Generally, it seems like y'all are thinking a lot about what to make for the men in your lives lately (and, yes, we see that some of those men are YOU). Well… we just happen to have some suggestions for you!

Being men ourselves, we have very specific thoughts about designing for men and we believe this is what makes our men's patterns so popular. If you want to know more about our thought process behind our menwear designs, check out our post Crazy 'Bout A Sharp Dressed Man – Designing menswear men WILL wear. We give you a little insight into how we design our men's patterns and the details we use in our designs that make them perfect for a guy's body.

Now… about those suggestions… What to make for THAT guy. Here ya go:

Men's Cabled Knit Sweater
This is one for those of you with skillz with sticks… the knitters. I will start by saying that we have two of these here in our own wardrobe. This wasn't the FIRST piece I ever made for Jason but it certainly is the one he wears the most. The cable detailing is placed strategically across the front to put the accent just the right spot to accent a man's strong chest. Matching cables on the sleeves draw the eye to the arms and away from any "problem areas" (like some of us carrying a few extra pounds around the middle region) and the drop shoulders with generous armholes provide ease of movement that doesn't bind up or bunch up. GAH! I HATE sweaters that bind and bunch up under my arms!

Worried that he won't like the turtleneck? No worries! Just work fewer rows and create a crew neckline instead. Easy peasy!

Men's Cabled Crochet Vest
For those of you with skillz at wielding a hook, this crochet vest is right up your alley. Featuring a bold offset crochet cable design along the front and back, this v-neck vest will look sharp on the links, in the office, or on the couch for a lazy weekend afternoon. The bonus here? The cable detailing is fun for YOU to make but it's not so overwhelming that he won't wear it. And, as we all know, that's one of the MAJOR obstacles when making something for guys.

As will all of our patterns, this one includes the written pattern, a schematic in case you want to make alterations for a custom fit, and a chart for the cable pattern. Give this one a try… you'll love the results!

Men's Hooded Crochet Vest
If y'all follow along with us on social media, you know that Shannon is a bit of a hoodie collector. His jokes about having a hoodie for every occasion aren't far from the truth. This crochet hooded vest is our homage to the guy who, like Shannon, enjoys wearing a good hoodie but who is also active and knows the value of a quality layering piece.

The crochet stitch pattern is lightweight and moves easily for a comfortable fit and our usual fit rules apply here: a little added length in the body and special attention paid to a comfortable armhole fit. We put pockets in the front for carrying all our "stuff" around with us too. Oh yeah… finish the whole thing off with a zip front and this hooded vest is ready to head to the hiking trails, the football game, or to just hang out on the weekends.

Slouchy Hat & Boyfriend Beanie from our book Heady Affairs
We have over two dozen of these types of crochet hats in our entryway closet. No kidding… When I see a color (or colors) I like, I grab a hook and Stitch On! We've handed these out to friends, family, and strangers alike and I still keep making them.

They are fun and quick projects that both men and women like to wear and they are both easily customizable by working a round to two extra/less for larger or smaller heads or for a less or more slouchy fit. Again, school colors, team colors, favorite colors, ALL THE COLORS! You'll see… it's hard to stop…

Infinity Squared Crochet Throw
Okay… so you are the type of guy or you are crochet or knitting something for the type of guy who you just KNOW it's going to wear something homemade. Yes… they exist. And, while we have evidence that any of these previously mentioned pieces would change their minds, maybe you just aren't looking for that kind of gift. Okay then… here's our answer for the guy who has everything or who is just too darn picky to deal with.

The Infinity Squared Crochet Throw is a gift that any guy will definitely appreciate. Featuring a bold graphic design, this throw can be made in his favorite colors and tossed over the back of his favorite chair for use during those impromptu naps or maybe during quality time with the kids. Oh… and it won't be an eyesore for YOU to look at while it is not in use as a napping aid.

Make it in school colors to send off to college or in team colors to take to the game. Either way, even the most difficult guy to crochet for is going to like this throw and will use it. Oh yeah… if you are making this for someone else, you'd better make one for yourself. They are really cozy!

Now I have to get back to stitching… I have THAT guy here to get busy making for…
