Introducing the first pattern in the Shibaguyz Designz Indie Maker pattern line. Let the grand experiment begin! Ever since we have started creating crochet and knit patterns, folks have been asking us: "Can I sell the finished item from your patterns?"
Still… about once a week we receive an inquiry from an independent maker about wanting to offer one of our items for sale in their online store or at a craft fair or to sell to a local retailer. Don't get us wrong… we are flattered that you all want to sell our designs! We just don't offer those types of licenses for our designs and, frankly, most folks would probably be shocked to find exactly what the fees for that type of a license would be if we did offer them for sale. Why are we doing this? Because we remember what it is like to get started. You see, Shibaguyz Designz started by making one or few-of-a-kind items for folks to buy at craft fairs and in our own online store. And it was TOUGH finding high quality, tested patterns that we could feel good about selling the finished items from to our clients. So… we started designing our own patterns. I think y'all know where it went from there. The bottom line is this: you might be a gifted maker who can turn out a high-quality handmade product but you might not have the skills to be a designer and write your own patterns. As a matter of fact, that's the case pretty normal and seems to be the case with MOST of the inquiries we receive. So… we offer an option you folks who either don't want to, or don't have the time to develop your own tested, tech edited patterns for your online shop or craft fair booths.
Now, as I said earlier, most folks would flat out drop over in a cold faint if they realized how much a license to produce finished items from a pattern cost. So, to make it a little more affordable, we are going to start with smaller items with a smaller retail price tag and a shorter licensing period. All of our patterns sold for use by independent makers of handmade goods will come with a 1-year license to produce items from the pattern they purchase. That means you, the maker, purchase the pattern then you can make as many items as you can make and sell in your online store or at craft fairs for the period of one year. After that time, you can purchase the pattern again for another year, or talk to us about purchasing a lifetime license. This is our way of helping independent makers get going. We started in the same place… and we know how tough it was to find good patterns with the correct licenses. To that end, all of our indie maker crochet and knit patterns have been professionally tech edited (just like all of our other patterns!), and are offered with this 1-year license so they are more affordable. That means you have a quality pattern at a price that you can actually start making a profit from at your first craft fair.
Not an indie maker but still want the patterns? We will still offer the patterns for personal use in our online store… but they are for personal use only. Yes, we're going on the honor system here. So this is our grand experiment. Folks have asked for patterns like this so we are going to offer them and see how it goes. If y'all like 'em… we'll produce more patterns with the same licenses. For now… here's the link to the Crochet Wrist Warmers Digital Pattern with 1-year indie production license. And for those who just want to make them for themselves, family, and friends without selling them, here the link to the Crochet Wrist Warmers Digital Pattern for personal use.
