No. 3 in Harmonious Imperfection, a closed series of seven wearable originals..
Interlocking circles of shippō, seven treasures linked, ripple across pale linen in fine blue thread, opening into a scattered field of small stitched hitomezashi style flowers below. A moyouzashi diamond anchors the indigo, and running lines and boro outline stitching draw the reclaimed patchwork into one quiet, luminous whole.
A study in Textile Architecture, this piece is built to be worn. The face is composed of reclaimed Eileen Fisher garments, broken down and reassembled by hand in patchwork fashion. The reverse is draping muslin drawn from our own studio, given renewed purpose rather than discarded. Hand stiched sashiko runs through both layers as it has for centuries, functioning not as surface ornament but as structure. The stitching holds the work together. The stitching is the architecture.
Constructed through improv machine patchwork, boro outline stitching, and hand sashiko worked in both hitomezashi and moyouzashi. High-end cotton thread throughout. Every seam is deliberate; nothing is wasted. This is Mottainai made wearable.
