A deep indigo panel carries a dense field of white rice stitch, the crossed jūjizashi worked edge to edge until the cloth seems to hold light. Beside it, a spiral, diamonds, and nested moyouzashi lines move across pale linen in blue, while fine running stitches draw a quiet plaid over natural muslin. Separate reclaimed pieces brought into accord, made to fit as one.
A study in Textile Architecture, this piece is built to be worn. The face is composed of reclaimed Eileen Fisher garments, reassembled by hand in the boro tradition. The reverse is draping muslin drawn from our own studio, given renewed purpose rather than discarded. Hand sashiko runs through both layers as it has for centuries, functioning not as surface ornament but as structure. The stitching holds the work together. The stitching is the architecture.
Constructed through improv machine patchwork, boro outline stitching, and hand sashiko worked in both hitomezashi and moyouzashi. High-end cotton thread throughout. Every seam is deliberate; nothing is wasted. This is Mottainai made wearable.
