巡る Meguru — Regeneration

Meguru — To go around, to circulate, to come full circle, to return.

No. 7 in Harmonious Imperfection, a closed series of seven wearable originals..

The quietest of the seven. Here the stitching works tone on tone, white thread on natural linen, so the patterns surface only as texture and shifting light: a geometric field of diamonds and stars worked on deep indigo, concentric mountain forms, and overlapping circles ghosted into striped cloth. Boro outline stitching gathers every reclaimed piece into one beautiful wearable. A full circle, the cloth returned and made whole.

A study in Textile Architecture, this piece is built to be worn. The face is composed of reclaimed Eileen Fisher garments, reassembled by hand in the boro tradition. The reverse is draping muslin drawn from our own studio, given renewed purpose rather than discarded. Hand sashiko runs through both layers as it has for centuries, functioning not as surface ornament but as structure. The stitching holds the work together. The stitching is the architecture.

Constructed through improv machine patchwork, boro outline stitching, and hand sashiko worked in both hitomezashi and moyouzashi. High-end cotton thread throughout. Every seam is deliberate; nothing is wasted. This is Mottainai made wearable.

The details:

  • Dimensions: 6" × 70"

  • Front: reclaimed Eileen Fisher garment fabrics (light denim, linen, cotton, hemp)

  • Back: reclaimed studio draping muslin

  • Technique: improv machine patchwork, boro outline stitching, hand sashiko (hitomezashi and moyouzashi)
