Maya Crochet Poncho Top Digital Pattern
Meet Maya. She drapes rather than clings, and the generous cowl is made for burrowing into on a cool morning.
Where Deva is knit, Maya is crocheted, but the two are cut from the same cloth: cozy, dramatic, oversized pieces made for wrapping up and feeling wonderful. Maya drapes instead of clings, wraps instead of fits, and pairs with everything from your favorite jeans to the leggings you secretly live in.
Her name means illusion, and she earns it. The Spike-V stitch creates a rippling, woven matrix that catches the light and keeps the eye wandering, texture that looks far more intricate than it is. It is all built from humble half double crochet that quietly does all the work.
We first designed this poncho years ago, and we have brought her back with fresh eyes, a smoother single-panel construction, updated counts, and a size range that reflects what we believe: the pleasure of wrapping yourself in something soft and beautiful belongs to every body.
This is slow, satisfying, take-along crochet. Worked in single panels and seamed together, Maya is patient and portable, the kind of project you reach for when you want the rhythm of the hook as much as the finished thing.
What you will make
A relaxed, oversized poncho top with a generous cowl neck
A flowing, forgiving silhouette with mesmerizing Spike-V texture
A piece that works in bold color, quiet neutrals, or a wild variegated you have been hoarding
The details
Sizes: A (B, C, D, E)
To fit bust: 28 to 68 inches / 71 to 172.5 cm
Finished length: 28 to 29.5 inches / 71 to 75 cm
Yarn: A superfine (fingering) weight yarn. The original yarn is discontinued, so we include three current substitution suggestions at accessible, mid-range, and splurge price points, with yardage so you can choose freely.
Hooks: 2.75mm (C-2) and 3.25mm (D-3), or sizes needed to obtain gauge
Also needed: Yarn needle, stitch marker
Skills used: Foundation stitches, half double crochet, the Spike-V stitch, single crochet ribbing, simple decreases, and seaming. Every technique is spelled out.
Full schematics and stitch charts are included.
A note on our sizes
You will notice Maya uses letters instead of S, M, L. We size by the body, not by a label, so each size is paired with the bust measurement it fits. Pick your size by the "to fit bust" range, and trust the generous, drapey ease.
What you get
An instantly downloadable PDF pattern, fully written out in all five sizes, with a complete stitch guide, schematic measurements, and our yarn substitution guide. This is a digital download. Nothing to be shipped.
Choose a color that makes your heart beat a little faster, trust your hands, and let the fabric work its quiet magic.
