Stop what you’re doing! It’s time to let your creativity run wild with sashiko—the ancient Japanese art that started out patching socks and ended up patching... well, pretty much everything else. Want your mending skills to wow your friends and confuse your enemies? You’re in the right place.
Grab a few simple tools and join us—your guides, cheerleaders, and certified “stitch-splainers”—as we walk (stitch?) you through hitomezashi and moyouzashi sashiko. You don’t even have to pronounce those words right away, but you’ll impress someone if you do.
First, we’ll help you pick the tools you need (spoiler: it’s not a chainsaw), decipher stitch charts (they’re not treasure maps, but close), and master the foundational moves—think of them as the ninja basics of sashiko. We'll be divulging our favorite tips and tricks including a few we've been keeping under wraps until now. You'll be able to decipher almost any stitch pattern you see and create works of art that will wow even the harshest critic. By the end, we'll have you stitching like a legend, dazzling with iconic patterns, and you'll be ready to apply your sharp new skills to just about anything—garments, quilts, that pile of “I’ll fix it someday” clothes in your closet.

- How to read and follow any hitomezashi or moyouzashi stitch charts (no Rosetta Stone required)
- The “rules” for neat, clean stitching—your lines may never be this straight again!
- How to choose and use all the right tools, needles, threads, and fabrics—and master your “unshin” (that’s needle-handling, not a sushi order)
- Step-by-step, crystal-clear instructions to iconic patterns.
- Endless applications: quilting, embroidery, fashion, mending, or whatever weird and wonderful project you dream up!
