Take a Moment to Reset and Recharge Your Creative Spirit with Six Restorative Projects
Without overstating the point, all of THIS <waves arms about wildly> can be a bit much at times. But you know what? We are makers. And makers have the superpower to slow down time and take a moment to reset and recharge. By simply picking up the tools and materials of our craft, makers can stop the insanity flying about threatening to destroy our peace and calm. In the interest of protecting our equanimity and restoring that peace, we present our new series called Maker’s Moments.
Maker’s Moments features six projects that don’t require a high level of concentration or a huge commitment of time. Pick them up when you feel the brain clutter building up and start creating without giving too much thought to anything but the movements of your hands. We designed projects that can be picked up and put down easily without a significant time commitment and without losing your place if you are called upon to save the Universe… again.
Each project includes a video tutorial with step-by-step instructions and an accompanying project sheet with detailed written instructions including stitch patterns and templates needed to complete the project.
Pick up a project, have a little maker’s moment to cleanse your energy, then put it down when you are recharged and ready to put on your cape again and save the Universe. Allow yourself a moment to let your hands take over and let your creative brain do the driving for a while. Take a Maker’s Moment.
What you will learn
- Six Maker's Moments projects are designed to be easy to pick up and put down for a moment of peace
- Harness your creative superpowers while saving your sanity
- Make six gorgeous, giftable projects centered around the textile arts of sashiko, boro, and kogin-zashi.
There are 6 unique projects in Maker's Moments...Where to Begin?
- Kogin-zashi Bookmark
Books were a common gift for Shannon and Jason growing up. Bookmarks were used as gift tags or were placed inside the front cover of gifted books like a special little bonus treasure every time they cracked a book open. Spend a moment of your day making a bonus treasure for yourself or someone else with this kogin-zashi bookmark or gift tag.
- Walnut Charm
Fear not! These are not the googly-eye-adorned, glue-laden creatures we made for craft time in days of yore. These are next-level walnuts bedecked with a delicate kogin-zashi motif that can be used to decorate a holiday tree, attach to your favorite tote as a purse charm, or as a gift topper. They also make fabulous little pin cushions for your travel kits and embroidery projects. Versatile and utterly charming, these elevated walnut trinkets can be placed anywhere you need a reminder to take a moment.
- Kogin Ornaments
Make handmade memories with these ornaments decorated with kogin-zashi motifs designed to evoke the winter holidays. Even if you don’t put up a tree, these make wonderful gift tags for any time of year. You can even leave off the backing and use these as decoration or patches for your garments. These are the perfect little project when stuff-n-things becomes a bit much and you need to take a moment.
- Boro & Sashiko Ornaments
Boro-style patchwork and sashiko stitching is a combination that most (if not all) who are introduced to the art never tire of. Watching the way each scrap of fabric and each stitch enhances a project is captivating and the desire to keep stitching (just one more row!) is compelling, to say the least. These ornaments are designed to give the satisfaction of the boro and sashiko process without taking up too much precious time or mental capacity.
- Boro & Sashiko Coasters
Unleash the soothing power of ASMR with the satisfying feel of the needle-pricking layers of fabric and the stress-melting sound and feel of thread being pulled through those layers. To make the coasters, you’ll cover squares of fabric with fabric in colors and textures that make your creative heart sing. As you add rows and layers of sashiko stitches, watch the beauty unfold into intricate designs right before your eyes. You’ll end up with a gorgeous little object that protects your surfaces while you protect your sanity.
- Boro & Sashiko Book Cover
We use these beautiful book covers to protect beloved book volumes from bumps and scuffs and reinforce the worn bindings of oft-used journals and design notebooks. Because of the customizable, recipe-style pattern, book covers can be made in any size, from the smallest notebook to cookbooks and family photo albums.
Bonuses
Each project tutorial includes a downloadable project sheet, written instructions or any additional pattern charts or templates needed to complete the project.
