We both have our families to thank for their journeys into crafting and sewing. We have treasured quilts and hand made art pieces that have been handed down over generation. In fact, we have pieces from each of our grandmothers hanging on our walls today.
Jason's grandmother's were an avid quilters and hand piecer. A few years ago Jason's mother sent him some quilt blocks that had been discovered in an attic. Among them were two completed blocks done by his paternal grandmother that now hang framed in our living room. Made from Hexagons and triangles with inexperienced stitching it was surely one of the first pieces she made.
Many of Shannon's grandmother's quilts stay safely in storage or are occasionally displayed, but one has been out since we first moved in together. It is a version of a "Grandmother's Flower Garden" throw that his grandmother made long before he was born. Also based on simple hand pieced hexagons, "Grandma's Flower Garden" is a great beginner pattern for someone learning EPP.
We are happy to provide you with the templates to use with our thread collection to make your own versions of these iconic patterns. We hope you use them to make treasures for yourself and your family down the road.
